Business policies for eBay cover three areas: Payment, Shipping, and Returns. These business policies are covered in eBay's help pages, located here: http://pages.ebay.com/help/sell/business-policies.html.
By selecting business policies for your listings, you will skip the process described in the rest of this document, because business policies allow you to set up custom combinations of shipping options in eBay, assign them names, and then select them in SureDone by selecting a policy for Payment, Shipping, and Returns.
Note: In order to assign a Business Policy to a product, eBay requires that you assign all three types of business policies to the product – e.g., in order to assign a Payment policy to a product, it must also have a Shipping and Return policy assigned to it.
Ship Type is a concept in eBay that describes a product and whether it has flat, calculated, or freight shipping costs. There are five possible values for Ship Type: Flat, Calculated, FlatDomesticCalculatedInternational, CalculatedDomesticFlatInternational, and Freight.
Products that have only Flat shipping services will be assigned a Ship Type of Flat.
Products that have only Calculated shipping services will be assigned a Ship Type of Calculated.
Products that have a mix of Flat shipping for Domestic and Calculated shipping for International, or Calculated shipping for Domestic and Flat shipping for International will be assigned a Ship Type of FlatDomesticCalculatedInternational, or CalculatedDomesticFlatInternational, respectively.
Products that have a Freight shipping service, or products whose weight exceeds 150 pounds will be assigned a Ship Type of Freight.
Flat shipping is a shipping type that is applied to shipping services. A shipping service that's classified as flat shipping will have a flat cost associated with it, or will be free.
To assign a flat cost to a Domestic shipping service, enter the desired cost in the Cost field for that particular service. In the image below the first domestic shipping service is free, while the second domestic shipping service has a cost of $22.95.
A shipping service will be classified as Calculated if: the product's weight and dimensions are filled out, the shipping service has a service type of Flat|Calculated, and there is no value entered in the Cost field.
Additionally, the product's weight must be less than 150 pounds, otherwise eBay requires that its Ship Type be converted to Freight.
A shipping service will be classified as Freight if either a shipping service with a service type of Freight is selected, or the product has a weight greater than 150 pounds.
Shipping Rate Tables are a feature offered by eBay to quickly set shipping charges and surcharges (if desired). Shipping rate tables can only be applied to services with a Flat shipping type. If a rate table is turned on for a service that has a Calculated shipping type, then the rate table will be ignored, and the product will be treated as though it was sent in with no shipping table for that shipping service.
More detailed information can be found in eBay's help section here: http://pages.ebay.com/help/pay/shipping-costs.html#tables
In SureDone, the Domestic Rate Table can be set on the item level by turning the toggle on or off. In the image below, the Domestic Rate Table toggle has been set to On.
In the next image, the International Rate Table has been set to On.
These toggles can be set to default to On or Off by adjusting their settings, which are found in Settings > Channels > eBay Instance Options. Below is an image showing the Domestic Rate Table and International Rate Table settings set to On by default.
Domestic Shipping is the subsection, within an eBay instance's shipping subsection, where shipping services and options can be specified at the product level. This subsection is called Domestic Shipping because it specifies shipping services that are domestic relative to the user's Site Shipping ID.
Shipping services in the Domestic Shipping subsection of one eBay instance must all have the same Ship Type, whether that's Flat, Calculated, or Freight. If a product is submitted with mixed Ship Types within the Domestic Shipping subsection, an error will be returned.
Users may specify up to four unique shipping services within the Domestic Shipping subsection. On the eBay product listing, buyers will be able to choose from the shipping services that the seller specified within SureDone.
Free shipping is an option only available to the first Domestic Shipping service (Domestic Shipping 1) of an eBay instance, and only for shipping services with a Ship Type of Flat. The free toggle is equivalent to entering a value in the Cost field – for a shipping service that would otherwise be interpreted as Calculated, it will instead be marked as Flat if the Free shipping toggle is set to On.
Default Shipping Cost
If a Domestic shipping service with a Flat Ship Type is entered for a product, and that shipping service has no cost entered in its Cost field, then SureDone will attempt to fill in that shipping cost with a default value from the Storefront Shipping field.
Below is an image of the Shipping field from the Storefront shipping section of the Single Item Editor.
Additionally, if an International Shipping service with a Flat Ship Type is entered for a product, and that shipping service has no cost entered in its Cost field, then SureDone will attempt to fill in that shipping cost with a default value from the Storefront International Shipping field. This field is shown in the image below.
International Shipping is the subsection, within an eBay instance's shipping subsection, where shipping services and options can be specified at the product level. This subsection is called International Shipping because it specifies shipping services that are international relative to the user's Site Shipping ID.
Shipping services in the International Shipping subsection of one eBay instance must all have the same Ship Type, whether that's Flat, Calculated, or Freight. If a product is submitted with mixed Ship Types within the International Shipping subsection, an error will be returned.
Users may specify up to four unique combinations of shipping services and locations within the International Shipping subsection. On the eBay product listing, buyers will be able to choose from the shipping services that the seller specified within SureDone. Unique combinations of shipping services and locations means that selecting the shipping service "USPS Media Mail" and the location "Canada" for International Shipping 1, and the same shipping service and location for International Shipping 2 would result in an error being returned when the product was submitted. An example image is shown below.
However, if the shipping service "USPS Media Mail" and the location "Australia" (or any location that wasn't Canada) were to be selected for International Shipping 2, then no error would be returned, because each entry has a unique location despite having the same shipping service. An example image is shown below.
In addition to being able to select four shipping services, the user may also opt to use eBay's Global Shipping Program. This is covered in more detail in the Global Shipping Program subsection of this guide.
To prevent an International Shipping service from being sent in, enter a "-1" in the Cost field. This will keep SureDone from sending that shipping service in to eBay, or from displaying any errors related to that specific shipping service. Below is an image illustrating this.
Global Shipping Program
The Global Shipping Program is a program offered by eBay to US and UK sellers. The program simplifies the international shipping process, allowing international buyers to purchase products, and the sellers to then ship the products to a domestic shipping center, where it will then be shipped internationally to the buyer.
There are a number of restrictions and prohibitions related to the Global Shipping Progam, which are detailed on eBay's help page. Among them are restricted categories; prohibited items; and maximum weight, length, and dimension sums. A product listed from SureDone that does not fit the requirements for eBay's Global Shipping Program will still list successfully to eBay, but it will have Global Shipping set to off, and a warning or notice to that effect will be displayed in the Error Log in SureDone.
The Global Shipping Program can be turned on or off at the item level by setting the Global Shipping Program toggle to on or off in the UI. Here is an image of the Global Shipping Program toggle set to on.
The Global Shipping Program can also be set to on or off by default, in Settings > Channels > eBay Instance Options, under the Global Shipping option. Below is an image of the Global Shipping setting toggle set to On.
More information about the Global Shipping page can be found here, on eBay's help page: http://pages.ebay.com/help/sell/shipping-globally.html
