How To: Use eBay's Max Stock

Max Stock is used to control how much stock is displayed on an eBay listing. Max Stock uses the lower of two values: Max Stock or the result of Total Stock minus Min Stock (if Min Stock is blank it's treated as zero). An example would be if you have a total stock of 20 and a Max Stock of 8, the value for stock on eBay will be 8 because 8 (Max Stock) is less than 10 (Stock).

As another example, let's say you have an item with a total stock of 10, a Max Stock of 8, and a Min Stock of 3. In this example, the value shown for stock on eBay will be 7 -- because 7 (10 - 3, which is Stock - Min Stock) is less than 8.

When you sell an item Max Stock will auto-fill your actual stock count. Using the former example, if you sell 1 (eBay would “think” you have 7), Max Stock will bring your stock count back up to 8, and that would be displayed on eBay. We will also send you a message stating that the stock level was brought back up to 8. Also, when your total stock count falls below Max Stock that lower value will be displayed maintaining an accurate actual stock count.

Note: You must first create a Custom Field to hold the value of your maximum stock number. Please see our guide on How to Create a Custom Field

1. Go to Setting > Channels and expand eBay Main Options

2. Scroll down the page until you see Max Stock Field and choose the Custom User Field you created.

3.You may then edit the value of the Custom User Field associated with Max Stock in an individual listing in the Editor, or use it in Bulk Uploading to populate the quantity.  See our guide to get started with Bulk Uploading.

Min stock is used to keep an amount of stock held in reserve and not listed on eBay. Min Stock represents the number of units of stock to hold back from an eBay listing, so the amount of stock shown on an eBay listing can be expressed as Stock - Min Stock. For example, if you had 10 units of some item, and wanted to make sure you always had a buffer of 4 units of stock on hand, setting a Min Stock of 4 would mean that 6 units of stock (10 - 4, which is Stock - Min Stock) would be shown on the eBay listing for that item.
